The city in the south of Brazil. The first settlers were newcomers from Great Britain. Officially the city was established in 1930 by a group of immigrants from Japan and German. The name of the city, as translated literally, means “the little London”. Londrina quickly has become a cultural, political and economic capital of the region. With time, more newcomers from other parts of Europe have arrived to live there.
Visit the sanctuary Gracas Schoenstatt and not necessary for religious reasons. It is a lovely, small temple with a tiny, green square, surrounded by blocks of flats. The view is impressive, more thanks to the fact that for most of the year the building is covered in ivy. Another interesting and amazing place is Praça Tomi Nakagawa, the square dedicated to the immigrants from Japan. Seeing eastern architecture in Brazil is quite surprising.
Nightlife is definitely a strong side of Londrina. In a club Kingdom 2800 at Avenida Higienopolis you can dance the night away. Do you prefer rock music? On a stage in Vitrola Bar at the same street there are playing local and non-local musicians a few times per week. Whereas a spontaneous party with strangers – full of dancing, singing and talks – awaits at Folks Pub Sertanejo at Avenida Maringa. If you are more into causal talks by drink, step by Deck Bar Londrina at Rue Espirito Santo. In the open-bar made of wood and bricks, they served delicious snacks to accompany your drink.
For shopping go to Mercado Shangrila. The huge marketplace is located by Rua Visconde de Maua in the district Shangrila. Citizens are making everyday shopping there, but tourists can also find something for themselves. Take home a bit of taste of Brazilian cuisine by choosing spices, that you fancy. You will also get there Brazilian nuts, packed in tiny bags, perfect for souvenir. Alleys with fruits are scenting sweetly, whereas those with jewellery are bright with colours. A walk through the market is adventure of its own.
