SAS was established in 1946, when Svensk Interkontinental Lufttrafik AB, Det Danske Luftfartselskab A/S, and Det Norske Luftfartselskap AS decided to team up to handle international traffic in Scandinavia together. In 1951, the airlines merged to create SAS. All passengers flying with SAS can bring one carry-on bag up to 8kg smaller than 55 cm x 40 cm x 23 cm and one personal item, such as a small handbag or laptop for free. The maximum size of the personal item is 40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm. For SAS Plus and SAS Business, cabin baggage allowance is 2 carry-on bags. Checked baggage allowance is: one piece of baggage of 23 kg for SAS Go, two 23kg bags for SAS Plus, and two 32kg bags for SAS Business. Any item of baggage may not be heavier than 32kg and measure more than 158 cm (length + width + height). A bag that exceeds these dimensions is considered special baggage. Baggage heavier than 32kg can be sent as cargo.

Service classes

SAS offers different travel classes to suit everyone's needs and budget. In a nutshell, there are 3 travel classes: SAS Go, SAS Plus and SAS Business. SAS Go is the cheapest class for light travelers. It includes snacks, light meals and beverages available for purchase from the SAS onboard menu or pre-ordered meal option. Coffee and tea are always free for all types of tickets. Meals are always served on flights to and from the US and Asia. Three types of tickets are sold within SAS Go: SAS Go Light, SAS Go Smart, and SAS Go Pro. SAS Go Light includes the ticket and basic cabin baggage; SAS Go Light additionally comes with one 23kg checked bag, whereas with SAS Go Pro bookings can be changed or canceled. SAS Plus class includes the following fares: SAS Plus Smart, SAS Plus Pro, and SAS Plus Full Flex. All these tickets come with a baggage allowance of two 8kg cabin bags and two 23 registered items of baggage. With SAS Plus Smart customers can use Fast Track and have access to SAS Lounges; with SAS Plus Pro and SAS Plus Full Flex travelers additionaly gain some flexibility, as it can be rebooked and is refundable. The latter is available only on flights within Scandinavia. SAS business class offers high-class service, including massage seats that convert into beds, free seat selection, a la carte menu and a wide range of entertainment on board, to name just a few. SAS Business Pro ticket is fully refundable and can be rebooked, while with SAS Business these services are available for a fee.

Online check-in

With SAS passengers can check in online between 22 hours and 1 hour before flight departure through the app or website. When checking in online, they receive a digital boarding pass.
