This major American airline was established in 1932, initially operating from Anchorage, Alaska. It went through several mergers and changed its name a few times to officially become Alaska Airlines in 1944. In 1960s, it merged with Alaska Coastal-Ellis and Cordova airlines, then with Horizon Air and Jet America 1987. In 2016, it acquired Virgin America to strengthen the presence of the airline in California and the West Coast. Alaska Airlines was the first carrier in North America to introduce ticket sales via Internet and first in the world to enable carrying out check in and printing boarding passes online.
